Level 199
Complete walkthrough with step-by-step instructions, tips, and strategies.
Level 199 is infamous. It's a massive vertical wall with a small ramp at the bottom. You need to hit it at the perfect speed and angle to climb up and over. This is widely considered the hardest level in the game's first 200 stages.
The Problem
Two reasons most people fail: going too fast (you bounce off) or too slow (you don't reach the top). The margin between these two outcomes is smaller than you'd think.
Step-by-Step Solution
Position at the Back
Start at the very back of the starting platform. This gives you the maximum run-up distance, which is critical for this level.
Accelerate to 80% Speed
This is the hardest part to get right. Don't floor it. Accelerate to about 80% throttle and hold it. If you go full speed, the car bounces violently off the wall and you lose all forward progress.
Hit the Ramp at an Angle
Don't hit the ramp straight on — that guarantees a bounce-back. Approach at a slight angle (about 10-15°). This lets the car's wheels find grip on the wall instead of just slamming into it.
Tilt Back When Front Wheels Hit
As the front wheels make contact with the vertical wall, tilt back slightly. This lifts the front end and transfers weight to the rear wheels, which pushes the car upward rather than bouncing it backward.
Switch to Forward Tilt at the Top
When the car is about 3/4 of the way up the wall, switch to a forward tilt. This pulls the nose over the top edge. The forward tilt is what completes the climb — without it, the car stalls at the top.
Troubleshooting Table
| Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Car bounces off wall | Too much speed, too straight | Reduce to 80% throttle, approach at 10-15° angle |
| Car climbs halfway then slides back | Not enough back tilt at contact | Tilt back HARD as front wheels hit the wall |
| Car reaches top but can't get over | Didn't switch to forward tilt | Switch to forward tilt when 3/4 up |
| Car flips on the wall | Too much angle at approach | Reduce approach angle to 5-10° |
| Car doesn't climb at all | Too slow | Increase throttle to 85% or start further back |
Advanced Technique: The Wall-Ride
Once you can consistently reach the top, try this: tilt to one side as you climb. This turns the vertical wall into a spiral climb, which distributes the car's impact force more evenly and reduces the bounce risk. Experienced players use this technique to clear Level 199 in under 10 seconds.
