What is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 about?

It's a turn-based RPG set in a Belle Époque-inspired world. Every year the Paintress paints a number, and everyone of that age turns to smoke. Each year, an expedition sets out to stop her — this is the story of Expedition 33, the one that's different.

Is Expedition 33 turn-based or action?

Both, deliberately. Turns are classic commands, but every enemy attack can be dodged or parried with real-time timing, and you can fire free-aim shots during your turn. If you like the idea of turn-based combat that keeps your hands busy, it's built for you.

Did Expedition 33 win Game of the Year?

Yes. It won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025 — setting a record for most awards won by a single game at the show — and went on to take more honors through 2026, including Game of the Year at the New York Game Awards.

Is the free Expedition 33 update out?

Yes. Sandfall released the free 'Thank You' update on The Game Awards night in December 2025. It adds the Verso's Drafts area (late game), new Endless Tower bosses, a photo mode, new outfits, and more — at no cost.
