Poppy Playtime Chapter 1 is where it all begins. You step into the abandoned Playtime Co. factory — a toy company that shut down years ago after all its employees mysteriously disappeared. You're a former employee who got a cryptic letter asking you to come back.

This chapter is short but intense. It's essentially a tutorial that gets you familiar with the GrabPack (your primary tool) and ends with one of the most iconic chase sequences in modern horror gaming.

Walkthrough

1

Starting Out & Explore the Entrance

You start in the entrance hall. Look around — the atmosphere is the first challenge. Walk forward and you'll see a giant Poppy Playtime poster. Go through the door on the left marked "EMPLOYEES ONLY." This hallway leads to the security office where you'll find your first tool.

2

Get the GrabPack

Head down the hallway and into the security office. The GrabPack is hanging on the wall — grab it. This is your only tool for the entire game.

Pro Tip: The GrabPack has two hands. You can use both at once to grab two things or connect two distant points. Remember this — it becomes crucial later.
3

Power Up the Generator

Go to the generator room. You need to restore power to open the main doors:

  1. Pull the chain near the generator with your blue hand
  2. Go to the fuse box and plug in your other hand to connect the circuit
  3. Flip the switch — the lights come back, but so does something else...
4

Security Office Puzzle

Head back to the security office and grab the security tape. Put it in the VCR. The tape shows a disturbing video of the "Bigger Bodies Initiative" — the company's secret project to create living toys. After the tape ends, you hear something moving in the vents. This is your first hint that Huggy Wuggy is coming.

5

The Vent Sequence

Leave the security office. The hallway is now dark. Use your flashlight and follow the vents — you can see Huggy Wuggy crawling through them. Move quickly but don't panic. Follow the indicated path through the halls. The game cues you which way to go.

6

The Huggy Wuggy Chase

This is the main event. After you pull the big lever to open the main gate, Huggy Wuggy drops down from above. You need to run — and fast:

  1. Run straight forward — don't look back
  2. When you reach the tables, crouch under them (Ctrl on PC)
  3. Keep running — Huggy knocks things over behind you
  4. In the long hallway with debris, weave around obstacles
  5. At the end, you'll slide under a closing door
Death Zone: If Huggy catches you, you restart from the lever. The key is: DO NOT stop running and DO NOT miss the crouch spots. The chase is scripted — the same obstacles appear every time.
7

Escape on the Train

After the door closes behind you, Huggy is gone (for now). You find yourself in a new area. The train is waiting — but you need the key. Check the desk nearby, grab the train key, and board. The train pulls away as Chapter 1 ends. You survived.

Chapter 1 Checklist

  • Get the GrabPack
  • Restore generator power
  • View the security tape
  • Navigate the vent sequence
  • Survive the Huggy Wuggy chase
  • Escape on the train

Tips & Tricks

  • Conserve your flashlight batteries — the dark sections are short, so don't keep it on constantly
  • Listen for audio cues — the game uses sound to tell you where to go and when danger is near
  • The chase is scripted — if you fail, you know exactly what's coming. Memorize the obstacle positions and you'll clear it
  • Chapter 1 is short — don't worry about missing anything, there are no collectibles to find
What's Next? Chapter 2 (Fly in a Web) picks up immediately after the train. You'll get new GrabPack hands and face Mommy Long Legs — one of the most memorable antagonists in the series. Read Chapter 2 Guide →
