Lord of Frenzied Flame

Elden Ring has six endings, and unlike most RPGs the choice isn't a dialogue option — it's the accumulated result of quests you may have finished (or never noticed) dozens of hours earlier. Some endings need a special item called a mending rune. One needs a summon sign. One needs you to hug a many-fingered horror in a sewer. This guide lists every ending, what it asks of you, and how to set them all up on a single save so nothing gets locked away.

How the Ending Choice Actually Works

Every ending funnels through the same door: after you defeat Radagon and the Elden Beast in the Ashen Capital, you stand before the shattered Elden Throne and choose how — or whether — to mend the Elden Ring. That prompt is where everything is decided:

  • No rune, no ritual? You get the default ending, Age of Fracture.
  • Holding a mending rune? The prompt offers it as an option — Age of the Duskborn, Age of Order, or Blessing of Despair depending on whose rune you use.
  • Finished Ranni's questline? A blue summon sign appears beside the throne. Ignoring the runes and summoning Ranni grants Age of Stars.
  • Embraced the Three Fingers earlier? The choice vanishes entirely and the world burns — Lord of Frenzied Flame.

Age of Fracture — The Default Ending

Do nothing special: beat the final boss, walk to the throne, and mend the ring with no mending rune in your inventory. That's the whole requirement. If you're the type of player who rushes the main path, this ending will find you on its own. It's the "canon-adjacent" Tarnished-becomes-Elden-Lord conclusion — complete, but deliberately left open, because the interesting versions of the world's repair are the five below.

Age of the Duskborn — Fia's Ending

Fia, the Deathbed Companion in Roundtable Hold, carries one of the game's quieter and more moving questlines:

  1. Meet Fia at Roundtable Hold and let her hold you (yes, really — it grants a small buff item).
  2. Progress the story until she leaves the Hold, then find her again in Deeproot Depths, deep beneath the world.
  3. Fight her champions when the moment comes, and speak with her afterward. Complete her business in Deeproot and she entrusts you with the Mending Rune of the Death-Companion.
  4. Hold onto it until the end. At the throne, choose it over the default mend for Age of the Duskborn — a world where those who live in Death are embraced rather than purged.

One warning: Fia's quest and the Dung Eater's quest orbit the same underground spaces and can step on each other. If you want both runes on one save, do Fia's steps promptly and don't linger.

Age of Order — Corhyn & Goldmask's Ending

The oddest couple in the Lands Between: Brother Corhyn, a devout scholar, and Goldmask, a silent man who points at things until reality confesses. Follow their story:

  1. Find Corhyn at Roundtable Hold, then track him through the world — he relocates as the story advances, eventually joining Goldmask.
  2. Keep checking in as you move into the Altus Plateau and onward to the Mountaintops of the Giants. Their study of the Erdtree's flaw plays out across a few conversations.
  3. Near the end of their journey, on the Mountaintops, the Mending Rune of Perfect Order becomes yours.
  4. Use it at the throne for Age of Order — a world repaired under a rule that finally admits its own imperfection.

Blessing of Despair — The Dung Eater's Ending

This is the "bad" ending, and getting it means aiding the game's most reviled character:

  1. Meet the Dung Eater at Roundtable Hold and accept his request: bring him Seedbed Curses, hidden on corpses across the world in castles, mansions, and battlefields.
  2. Feed him the curses, then find his true body imprisoned in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds beneath Leyndell and release him.
  3. Continue supplying curses until his task is complete and the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse is yours.
  4. Use it at the throne for Blessing of Despair — a curse stretched across generations. You'll know it when you see it. So will everyone in the room.

Age of Stars — Ranni's Ending

The longest questline in the game, and the community's favorite ending:

  1. Start Ranni's story at her Rise in the Three Sisters region of Liurnia and accept her service. You'll meet her earlier too, if you visit the Church of Elleh at night.
  2. You'll need to fell Radahn at the Redmane festival — his death opens the way to Nokron, the Eternal City, where the Fingerslayer Blade waits.
  3. Deliver the blade, then descend through Ainsel River and Nokstella following her instructions.
  4. Return to Rennala's Grand Library to claim the Dark Moon Ring — our Rennala guide covers that room and what beating her unlocks.
  5. Finish her business across the late-game moonlit areas. Then, after the final boss, ignore the runes and use Ranni's summon sign beside the throne. The stars answer.

Lord of Frenzied Flame — The Chaos Ending

The strangest unlock in Elden Ring. Beneath Leyndell's sewers — the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, past the faded specter of Mohg — lies a hidden path down to the Three Fingers. Open the way, strip off every piece of your equipment, and let the thing embrace you. From that moment the final throne choice is replaced: your Tarnished becomes the Lord of Frenzied Flame and the ending plays itself.

Because it hard-locks your other endings, treat this as a deliberate commitment. If you change your mind afterward, there is exactly one remedy: the Miquella's Needle from Millicent's questline, which must be used in Dragonlord Placidusax's hidden arena far below the earth. It works even after the embrace — but do yourself a favor and decide before you descend.

One Save, All Six Endings

The practical checklist if you want everything on a single playthrough: keep Fia, the Dung Eater, and Corhyn's questlines moving as you reach each region; beat Radahn and finish Ranni's quest before the endgame; leave the Three Fingers alone unless chaos is your plan; and collect every mending rune into your inventory. Then at the throne, take one ending per run — the game returns you to the world after the credits, the final boss respawns, and the next choice waits. Six endings, one save, no New Game Plus required.

Elden Ring Endings FAQs

How many endings does Elden Ring have?

Six. The default Age of Fracture, plus five variants: Age of the Duskborn, Age of Order, Blessing of Despair, Age of Stars, and Lord of Frenzied Flame. Three of them come from holding a specific mending rune when you repair the Elden Ring, one comes from Ranni's questline, and one comes from the Three Fingers.

Can you get all endings in one playthrough?

Yes. After the credits, the game drops you back before the final boss fight, and you can beat Radagon and the Elden Beast again for a different ending whenever you like — no New Game Plus required. Collect every mending rune and finish Ranni's quest on one save and you can unlock all six endings from it.

Does the Frenzied Flame ending lock you out of the others?

Taking the Three Fingers' flame before the final fight makes Lord of Frenzied Flame your only available ending — the throne choice is replaced. There is one escape hatch: the Miquella's Needle from Millicent's questline, used in Dragonlord Placidusax's hidden arena, cancels the flame's influence and restores your other options.

What level should I be for the final boss?

Most players reach Radagon and the Elden Beast somewhere between level 120 and 150 with a fully upgraded weapon. If you're underleveled, the fight is long but learnable — our Radagon & Elden Beast guide breaks down both phases, and Melina's Rune Arc-less runs are a great way to practice the Elden Beast's arena attacks.

Which Elden Ring ending is the best?

It depends what you want from the story. Age of Stars is the community favorite for its bittersweet, hopeful tone and because Ranni's questline is the longest. Age of the Duskborn and Age of Order each mend the world in gentler ways, while Blessing of Despair is deliberately grim. Mechanically they're identical — pick the story that speaks to you.

Do I need every mending rune before the final boss?

No. A mending rune only matters when you're standing at the Elden Throne choosing how to repair the ring, and you can carry several at once. As long as the questline that awards a rune is finished before you enter the Ashen Capital, the choice stays open at the end.

Before you go: every ending runs through the same final wall. If Radagon's hammer or the Elden Beast's light show is giving you trouble, our final boss guide covers both phases move by move, and the Elden Ring hub has strategies for every boss between here and the throne.
