Gna, Valkyrie Queen
Complete walkthrough with step-by-step instructions, tips, and strategies.
Gna is the Valkyrie Queen of God of War Ragnarok — a secret post-game boss that makes the main story bosses look like tutorials. She's fast, hits hard, and has a massive moveset with unblockable attacks, wing slams, and a devastating grab that can one-shot you on higher difficulties.
She appears in Muspelheim after you complete the main story. Unlike the Valkyries from the 2018 game, Gna doesn't have a separate arena — she fights you in the open area of the Crucible.

All Attacks & Counters
| Attack | Type | Tell | Counter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scythe Combo | Blockable | Spins scythe overhead | Block the first two, dodge roll the third (unblockable) |
| Wing Slam (AOE) | Blockable | Folds wings and slams ground | Block or dodge backward — the AOE has a wide radius |
| Valhalla Stomp | Unblockable (red ring) | Leaps into air, plans to stomp you | Dodge to the side RIGHT as she descends — not too early |
| Bifrost Beam | Unblockable (red ring) | Hovers and charges Bifrost energy | Dodge left or right perpendicular to the beam |
| Grab Attack | Unblockable (red ring) | Dashes forward with glowing hand | Dodge to the side — if caught, it's massive damage or instant kill |
| Bifrost Bombs | Blockable | Throws 3 Bifrost orbs that land in a spread | Can be blocked, but the Bifrost buildup is dangerous. Dodge through the gaps |
| Wing Charge | Blockable | Charges forward with wings extended | Parry or shield block — the timing is forgiving |
Phase Strategy
Phase 1 (100% - 60% HP)
Gna uses her basic moveset: Scythe combos, Wing Slams, and the occasional Valhalla Stomp. Stay close — she's less dangerous up close where you can react to her wind-ups. Use Stone Wall Shield to absorb her combos without staggering.
- Punish openings after her Scythe combo (dodge the third hit, then attack)
- Use runic attacks during her long recovery animations
- Don't get greedy — 2-3 hits max per opening
Phase 2 (60% - 30% HP)
Gna adds the Bifrost Beam and Bifrost Bombs. Bifrost damage turns ALL damage into health loss if you get hit while afflicted — it's extremely dangerous.
- When you see the Bifrost Beam tell, immediately move perpendicular
- Bifrost Bombs can be blocked, but the buildup is punishing — dodge instead
- If you get Bifrost buildup, disengage and wait for it to clear before attacking
- Use Spartan Rage to clear Bifrost buildup in emergencies
Phase 3 (30% - 0% HP)
Gna becomes hyper-aggressive. Combos are longer, windows are shorter, and she chains attacks together with almost no pause. The Grab Attack becomes a frequent threat.
- She can chain 2-3 attacks together now — don't rush in after the first dodge
- The grab attack is your best damage window if you dodge it — she has a long recovery
- Use Hilt of Skofnung for the sword spin — it staggers her and gives breathing room
- Save Spartan Rage for emergency heals or to interrupt her combos
Key Strategy Tips
The Poison Build Strategy
Use Lunda's Lost Set (poison armor):
- Equip Lunda's chest, wrist, and waist
- Use the Poison Axe Handle (Viper's Toxin grip)
- Every poison tick does damage AND staggers Gna
- Poisoned Gna takes 40% more damage from all sources
- Re-apply poison every 15 seconds
