The Radiance is the true final boss of Hollow Knight — and the fight most players never see. She hides at the very end of the Pantheon of Hallownest in Godhome, behind a gauntlet of more than 40 bosses fought back to back. Reaching her tests your endurance. Beating her tests everything you've learned in the game: movement, spells, healing under pressure, and staying calm when a single mistake sends you back to the start of the Pantheon.

The good news: her fight is fair. Every attack has a clear tell, and her patterns are more readable than Nightmare King Grimm's. The bad news: by the time you get to her, your hands will already be tired.

How to Unlock the Fight

Two things must be done before the Radiance is even possible:

  1. Get the Void Heart. Find both halves of the Kingsoul charm (one at the end of the White Palace, one in the Birthplace), then take the complete charm to the bottom of the Abyss. It transforms into the Void Heart, which is required for the true endings.
  2. Clear Pantheons 1-4 in Godhome. That unlocks the Pantheon of Hallownest, the fifth and final gauntlet. It chains every boss in the game and ends with the Hollow Knight — and then her.

Preparation and Charm Build

CharmCostWhy
Quick Focus3Faster healing — her openings are short, and slow Focus will get you hit
Shape of Unn2Heal while moving, so you can dodge orb volleys mid-heal
Unbreakable Strength3More nail damage — every phase ends sooner
Mark of Pride3Extra reach for safe hits after her teleport slash

Total: 11 notches. If you're short on notches, keep Quick Focus and Strength and drop the reach charms. A spell-heavy alternative works too: Shaman Stone + Spell Twister turns one full Soul tank into two Abyss Shrieks, which melt her phases faster than nail pokes. Whichever build you pick, bring the Shade Cloak — dashing through her light attacks is a survival tool here, not a luxury.

Every Attack and the Counter

AttackTellWhat to Do
Teleport SlashShe fades out and reappears right beside youDash away the instant she vanishes. After the slash she's open for 1-2 hits — your main damage window
Orb VolleyShe spreads her arms and fires tracking orbs of lightWeave between them; Shade Cloak through if they've cornered you
Sword RainSpinning swords appear overhead, then dropKeep walking and watch the shadows — dodge where they gather, don't dash blindly
Light SpearsPillars of light erupt from the floor in a lineStep into the gaps between spears. Move early, not late
Sword RingA circle of swords spins outward around herJump through a gap, or Shade Cloak through one sword as it passes
Eye Beam (final phase)She charges a beam from her faceHide behind a platform, or dash through the moment it fires

Phase-by-Phase Strategy

1

The Hollow Knight Warm-Up

The fight opens as a regular Hollow Knight encounter. Fight it carefully and — this matters — save your Soul. At half his health, he tears himself open and the Radiance drags you into her dream. Every drop of Soul you bring into that dream is damage you won't have to earn there.

2

Phase 1 — Learn Her Rhythm (100%-60%)

Early on she only teleports and throws orb volleys, and her movement is predictable: she blinks around 2-3 times, then commits to an attack. Your damage comes right after her teleport slash. Hit her twice, walk away, wait for the next teleport. Never chase her — she always leaves before you arrive.

3

Phase 2 — The Sky Turns Hostile (60%-30%)

Sword Rain and Light Spears join in, so standing still is no longer an option. Move in slow circles around the arena and heal only in the gap right after a Sword Rain clears. If you panic-heal in the open, you will eat three swords and lose the run.

4

Phase 3 — The Crumbling Dream (30%-0%)

The floor breaks apart into a few small platforms and she gets faster. Space is tight, so this is where spells earn their keep: an Abyss Shriek after each teleport slash out-damages three nail hits, and it ends the phase before the arena can shrink on you. Keep heals short and only from safe ground.

The Final Blow

When her health hits zero, it isn't over — Void tendrils erupt from below and pin her in place. Land a few last hits while she's restrained and the true ending takes over from there. This part can't be failed, so put the nail away in your mind and enjoy it. You just finished the hardest thing in Hollow Knight.

Rewards

Beating the Radiance unlocks the "Embrace the Void" ending and completes the Pantheon of Hallownest — the closest thing the game has to true completion. Don't expect loot: there's no new charm, no Geo, no upgrades. The reward is the ending, the achievement, and the right to be insufferable about it in Hollow Knight discussions forever.

Soul Discipline: Bank your Soul early and spend it on Abyss Shriek, not heals you don't need yet. Her phases fall dramatically faster to spells, and a phase that ends sooner is a phase you can't die in. Heal in small top-ups with Quick Focus instead of hoarding for a full bar.
Common Death: Greedy healing. Most attempts at the Radiance don't die to her attacks — they die because someone healed during Sword Rain and stood up inside three falling swords. If there's no clean gap, don't heal. Chip damage beats a mask lost.
